Hello.
This is Momoko.

Do you know the difference of Shrine and Temple?

I was asked my Brazilian friend about it and I couldn't answer...
So, I'd like to explain the difference of Shirine and Temple this time.

Shrine is...
a building for the worship of Shinto gods.
The Shrine is dedicated to one or more gods, god-ancesters of the Imperial Family or historical figures.

Temple is...
a Buddhist temple where the statue (image) of Buddha is enshrined and worshipped.
The Buddhist priests and nuns reside to practice ascetic exercese and Buddhist ceremonies
in the temple.

We usually visit the shrinewhen we pray for something or almost all Japanese visit there
at the New Year and pray for our health and peace etc.

I think the shrine and tepmle has different atmosphere but when I visit there, my feelig
becomes calm and feel good.

I really recommend you to go both of them and feel the difference.
